A ceremonial turn-over of the Barangay Development Plans (BDPs), as part of the peace-building component of the SPAN-WAVE project implemented by OPAPP and UNDP in partnership with ECOWEB, took place in Bayview Park Hotel, Manila last March 4-5, 2020.
The event was participated by 72 barangays from Marawi City and municipalities, and selected barangays of Maguindanao, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.
For this project, ECOWEB facilitated the crafting of the BDPs of 7 barangays of Marawi City namely Barangay Mipaga, Basak Malutlut, Emie Punud, Biaba Damag, Barrio Green, Gadongan and East Basak.
Along with this success are the commendable support from our local partner CSOs namely Lanao Youth Council (LYC), Lanao del Sur People’s Council (LDSPC), Philippine Muslim Women Council (PMWC) and Marawi Bakwit Association (MBA).
ECOWEB’s project staff in coordination with resource persons and development plan experts to formulate and institutionalize plans, policies, and profiles of the barangays. ECOWEB’s chairman of the board, Atty. Omer Pacilan and treasurer Luchi Sevidal Castro, PhD edited the content of the documents and reproduced by Ateneo de Davao University, who also organized the said ceremony.
The expression of support from chairpersons and the context of the barangay development plans was anchored to the peace-building and normalization initiatives in Marawi City. This is a step forward for the barangays to challenge the pressing problems in the city in terms of conflict and violence. It underscores longer-term capacity building and utilization of resources to be steadfast in peacekeeping missions.
The technical working group along with the forward-looking members of the project have shared their expertise and knowledge in developing the documents and proactively implementing the project to make this as an instrument for a new beginning and in building back Marawi City.
