For the first time in decades, the families of Purok Illaya, Brgy. Cotcot, Liloan, Cebu faced a flood so powerful it swept away homes, claimed lives, and left deep scars on a community that has long lived in peace by the river.
In this short documentary, residents recount the terrifying hours when Typhoon Kalmaegi (Tino) struck-how the water climbed faster than they could run, how parents clung to their children, how neighbors pulled each other from danger even as their own homes were being washed away.
But amid the trauma, one truth stands out: tinabangay.
Bayanihan carried this community through the darkest moments—neighbors rescuing neighbors, people sharing whatever food, water, or shelter they had left, and survivors helping survivors rebuild from almost nothing.
ECOWEB stands alongside the people of Purok Illaya, supporting community-led recovery where the strength, decisions, and leadership come from the residents themselves—those who know their needs, their hopes, and their path forward.
Watch. Listen. Bear witness to their story.
Their courage deserves to be seen.
