WOMEN of #sclr: Mangga Uno Women’s Association leads group clean-up in Barangay Tubod, Iligan City

Members of the Mangga Uno Women’s Association in Barangay Tubod no longer waited for external assistance when Tropical Storm Penha (#BasyangPH) struck Iligan City. Right after the storm passed, the group began feeding their neighbors who had lost everything, using the kitchen tools and materials previously acquired through an earlier EcoWEB microgrant. The women group prepared meals for the families affected by the flooding.

Building on these efforts, the women association proposed another project this time focused on community clean-up drive through the sclr approach. Their microgrant, amounting to PhP 123,310 and released on February 28, 2026 led to the purchase of cleaning materials to mobilize residents in clearing mud, debris, and trash left by the disaster.

“These cleaning materials can be used by the whole community. It is not just for the association. We all need to help each other during times of disasters like Basyang,” shared Association President Melody Pagsiat.

Turning collective action into a large-scale effort to restore their community, the initiative benefits 292 families or 1,141 individuals. This project is co-funded by the City Local Government Unit of Iligan, through the Gender and Development Committee and in partnership with the CLEARNet.

In line with the celebration of the International Women’s Day, the EcoWEB highlights women-led initiatives applying the sclr approach as part of the early recovery of Iligan City. Currently, we continue to seek your kind and generous assistance for these families.
