On the night of 30 September 2025, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck off the coast of Bogo City, northern Cebu Province, causing widespread devastation across northern Cebu and nearby areas. The tremor, followed by hundreds of aftershocks, triggered a tsunami alert (later lifted) and left a trail of collapsed buildings, damaged infrastructure, power outages, and disrupted communication lines.
As of 1 October 2025, 6:00 PM, authorities have confirmed 56 deaths and 201 injured, with over 111,600 people affected and more than 20,000 displaced. The hardest-hit areas include Bogo, Medellin, San Remigio, and Daanbantayan, which together host a population of over 315,000.
The Province of Cebu has declared a State of Calamity, with response operations underway involving LGUs, the Armed Forces, Coast Guard, PNP, BFP, and humanitarian partners. ECOWEB is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with networks and partners for possible humanitarian response.
