For a child, having a complete set of school supplies or wearing the same uniform as their classmates can mean more than simply being ready for class. It can mean feeling prepared, included, and confident enough to participate.
In Marawi City, EcoWEB, through the 1048 Care for Peace Project, recently conducted its 1st Quarter School Materials Distribution, reaching 399 children and six partner schools.
The activity provided school supplies to children to help them meet their everyday school requirements and participate more actively in their classes, especially when access to education resources remain a challenge. Learning materials were also distributed to six partner schools to support classroom activities and create a more supportive environment for children’s learning.
For the children, the support also included school uniforms, something that can help them feel connected to their respective schools and more at ease among their peers. A school uniform may seem like a simple thing, but for a child, it can carry a sense of belonging. Having a school uniform can help reduce situations where children feel different because of what they wear, while also helping lessen their vulnerability to teasing or bullying related to clothing.
“Through these interventions, we hope to create a mire supportive and inclusive learning environment where children can participate in school with greater confidence and dignity,” said Julius Cagampang, Project Manager of the 1048 Care for Peace Project.
The school materials distribution is part of the 1048 Care for Peace sponsorship program for children in Marawi City, which aims to contribute to quality education and the holistic development of children. The project is funded by ChildFund Japan.
At its heart, the effort is about helping children have what they need to take part in school – not only with the materials they carry, but also with the confidence and dignity they bring into the classroom.
