At 9:43 AM on October 10, 2025, a powerful magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck off the coast of Manay, Davao Oriental, with its epicenter located 48 kilometers northeast of the municipality at a depth of 23 kilometers. The offshore quake -the strongest to hit the Davao Region in recent years– shook large parts of Mindanao and the Visayas, triggering widespread alarm, damage, and hundreds of aftershocks across affected provinces.

The earthquake produced Intensity V shaking across Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Davao City, parts of Cotabato, Sarangani, South Cotabato, and Surigao del Norte, while moderate to light intensities were felt as far as Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and the Bicol Region. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the Philippine Seismic Network had recorded 808 aftershocks, ranging from magnitude 1.2 to 5.8, as of 8:00 AM on October 11, 2025.

Reports from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) confirmed seven deaths and eleven injuries resulting from the twin quakes of magnitudes 7.4 and 6.8 that rocked Davao Oriental and nearby provinces. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) further reported significant impacts on families and housing across multiple municipalities.
