Iligan City LGU GAD Coordinators push for sclr approach to recovery

In our efforts to mainstream the community-led initiatives, the Ecosystems Work for Essential Benefits (EcoWEB), Inc., in coordination with the Iligan City Local Government Unit – Gender and Development (GAD) Council and the Iligan City Peoples Council, facilitates the orientation on survivor- and community-led response (sclr) approach to GAD Community Coordinators.

This activity aimed to work with the community coordinators to conduct appreciative inquiry and further check the situation of families directly affected by Tropical Storm Penha (#BasyangPH). The orientation is also in line with the partnership agreement between the EcoWEB and Iligan City LGU to institutionalize the sclr approach in the local government budgeting and planning process.

The slcr team led by Project Manager Imee Manginsay also shared success stories from the recent typhoons and shearlines affecting Central Visayas and Caraga and encouraged the community coordinators to influence the affected families to unite and help one another to recover from the impact of TS Basyang.

The GAD community coordinators are coordinating now with purok leaders, barangay officials and existing community groups to gather information and assess the needs of communities for recovery and rehabilitation.

More than a week after the storm, around 29,000 families were recorded to be affected by TS Basyang in 38 barangays within Iligan City. While they start to rebuild their lives, urgent relief aid is still needed by the survivors including underwear like panty, bra & brief, as well as cleaning materials, kitchen kit and shelter repair kit.

We seek your kind and generous assistance for these families.
